Black Umfulosi

The Fiddle Tree's November event sees a very welcome return visit to the area by the amazing singing & dancing group Black Umfolosi 5, from Zimbabwe.
The group, who are much loved around the world, offer their sweet sounds of acapella with marvellous harmonies and gospel singing, as well as captivating dancing including the gumboot dancing of South Africa. Black Umfolosi deliver their performance with fun and joyful enthusiasm. This bare-torsoed, hard-hatted group, never fail to captivate their audience and encourage them on to the stage to join in the performance. They are equally at home on the concert stage or leading workshops for all age groups.

Their songs, sung in close, rich harmony, address general human concerns - love, family, spirit - as well as contemporary problems - wars, apartheid, the environment and AIDS. Their music is fresh and surprising, not only for the interesting text, but also for the typical intricate rhythms, unusual harmonies and interspersed clicking, clapping and shouting, which combine to produce a natural funky and rugged aura

Who We Are

A little bit about The Fiddle Tree

THE FIDDLE TREE is a not-for-profit organisation based in Birnam and Dunkeld, Perthshire, and has been promoting concerts and events in Highland Perthshire for over 9 years now. Since our formation in 2003, we have presented a wide range of highest quality performers from Scotland, England, Ireland, Europe, Australia, North America and Africa. The majority of these concerts were presented in the Birnam Hotel's magnificent Baronial Hall, but they have more recently been put on in the Birnam Arts Centre's state-of-the-art Main Hall although we continue to use the Hotel for our annual New Year Ceilidh and other concerts which suit the ambience and capacity of the Baronial Hall.
